Music Director & Condutor
Ryan has a passion for bringing music to life from the podium . . . pit or studio. He is an experienced music director and conductor of musical theater, opera, film and concert music. He has served as music director for various musicals including: Experience Magic! (Sierra Madre Playhouse,) Annie, The Sound of Music, Into the Woods, Chess, The Pajama Game, Bells Are Ringing, and Showtune (Rialto Theatre), Funny Girl (Colony Theatre) and Heathers (Santa Ana College).
As a music director he is capable of managing all music-related aspects of a musical theatre production: auditions/casting; teaching the singers their parts; coaching them in the phrasing, pacing and intent of each song; rehearsing and hiring an orchestra; arranging additional music or modifying existing music to suit the production; and ultimately conducting the performances from the orchestra pit ensuring appropriate balance and overall sound of the production.
Ryan is a trained conductor of symphonic music and opera. He is the current conductor of the Neue World Orchestra Project and formerly the LaVoce Phil Youth Orchestra. He has studied conducting with Dr. Johannes Müller-Stosch (Conductor of Holland Symphony Orchestra) and Jorge Mester (Conductor of the Orquesta Filharmónica of Boca Del Río and the Pasadena Symphony, 1984–2010). He also completed the Los Angeles Conductor Workshop with maestro Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss. As a musicologist, he is well versed in the performance styles and demands of orchestral repertoire ranging from the Baroque era to the present. He brings this knowledge to the podium to deliver thoughtful and exciting interpretations of classical music for audiences and musicians.
