Ryan is a compelling and resourceful young composer who uses the language of music to actualize emotion on the page. He is versatile composer that can compose for any genre and instrumentation.
Coupled with instrumental music composition he is also a professional songwriter and lyricist. He’s studied lyric writing with American songwriter Marty Panzer while working as his teaching assistant at UCLA in 2015. His songwriting artistry stems from many avenues of songwriting styles, making him an adaptable songwriter for theater, film, and television. These styles include: musical theater, jazz, rock, pop, blues, religious, and choral.
Ryan’s specialty is composing new musical theater works. His first musical, Shoot Ma! was produced at the Colony Theater in Burbank (2010) and his second musical Experience Magic! was produced at the Sierra Madre Playhouse (2011). In addition to musical theater, Ryan has created a new market for himself—composing music for magic shows. Since 2010 Ryan has been writing music for professional magicians from the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
In 2015 he was commissioned to write a 90th Anniversary song for the Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena. Most recently he composed the song “In the Music” to celebrate memory of his piano teacher and as a tribute to all music educators. This song received Honorable Mention in the SongDoor International Songwriting Competition in 2016. He has also contributed original songs for Summer with Shakespeare performances at A Noise Within Theatre Company.
As an experienced arranger, orchestrator and copyist Ryan knows the importance that an orchestrator has in musical theater and knows how to give a show a particular sound the matches its dramatic content. He’s provided orchestrations and arrangements for the following musical productions: Experience Magic! (orchestrations) and Rapunzel: The Musical (orchestrations and vocal arrangements).
